What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes. It involves stimulating sensory nerves under the skin and in the muscles.
Traditional acupuncture is based on the belief that an energy, or "life force", flows through the body in channels called meridians. This life force is known as Qi (pronounced "chee").
Practitioners who use acupuncture in the traditional way believe that when Qi does not flow freely through the body, this can cause illness. They also believe acupuncture can restore the flow of Qi, and so restore health.
A session involves an assessment of your general health, medical history and a physical examination, followed by insertion of the acupuncture needles. The therapist will occasionally end with a Tui Na massage, depending on the issue.
Is Acupuncture safe?
Yes - but only when done by a registered Acupuncturist. Our therapist is a fully licensed and registered Acupuncturist. She is also bound to a governing body and holds her own indemnity insurance.
All equipment used is legitimate, and all needles are fine, single use and sterile. Align ensures the highest of cleanliness standards throughout the clinic.
